Key Takeaways | Innova Tech Showcase

Innova’s second annual Tech Showcase, held at the end of February in Houston, was a huge success! The room was packed with customers, key contacts, and partners, all excited to see what’s new from Innova. The feedback has been incredibly positive – so much so that we’re already planning for next year.

If you couldn’t make it, don’t worry! We’ve pulled together the key highlights from the event, along with some exciting developments you won’t want to miss.

Introducing Well Seeker X

At the forefront of our showcase was the launch of Well Seeker X, the next generation of our well-planning and directional drilling software suite. Innova CEO, Dan Wessel, demonstrated the enhanced features and functionality of Well Seeker X, which was built upon the robust foundation of Well Seeker Pro.  Its user-friendly, more intuitive interface supports tear-off panes, an interactive status bar and dark/light modes. Another key upgrade is the expanded MWD toolkit, which now includes a full surface system spec for the entire well, separate run parameters, a non-mag spacing calculator, a pressure drop calculator, a probe catalog, and automatic sensor offset calculations. This feature got a great response from the audience at the event.

Well Seeker X is now available for download! Visit our website for more details, and reach out to our team if you’d like to learn more about the latest evolution in directional drilling software.

Enhancements to the Innova Portal

Our dedication to continuous improvement is clear in the latest updates to the Innova Portal. At the showcase, Innova’s Technical Manager, Jay McLelland, along with Software Developers Celia Vergara and Darwin Luna, highlighted some of the biggest features and enhancements introduced over the past year. With 68 new updates – more than one per week – it’s a testament to the pace at which we develop and innovate.

Led by our ambitious development team, Innova’s products are always evolving to stay ahead of the market. The Innova Portal gives customers the flexibility to operate both online and offline, with full data synchronization from office to field. Some of the key new features include:

  • Engineering Reports

  • Switch database option

  • Multiple database support

  • User defined report colors

  • Alerts system

  • BHA Analysis

  • Wall Plot Composer

  • Heat Map Card

  • Score card KPI

  • EMM stand-alone sit

Deep Dive Session

For the afternoon session, Jay took a deep dive into a handful of some of the most significant features developed over the past year. He walked through each one in detail, giving a live demonstration of the software in action. Here’s a closer look at what he covered:

  • Data Synchronization: This feature will automatically synchronize the field personnel’s local database with your organization’s remote server database, enabling seamless bi-directional data transfer. Seamlessly connect rig sites and office locations with our new automated two-way data transfer feature. Authorized users can instantly share and sync critical data, ensuring real-time access and improved operational efficiency. Some of the key benefits include:

    • Empowering directional drillers, MWD engineers, well planners, and drilling engineers to collaborate seamlessly from any location.

    • Engineered for ease of use, this plug-and-play solution ensures smooth and hassle-free deployment.

  • Wall Plot Composer: This feature allows the user to design custom templates effortlessly with our powerful tool, incorporating plots, data tables, logos, and images. Whether you need a simple letter-sized PvA plot or a highly detailed A0 wall chart, our solution offers the flexibility to create professional-quality visuals at any scale.

  • Object Validation: Over the past few years, we’ve added several features to Well Seeker and the Portal to help users QAQC field data more efficiently. These tools make it easy to spot missing or incorrect data without having to manually sift through everything. This year, we took it a step further with the new Object Validation feature. It not only helps users quickly identify gaps in the data but also automatically flags issues—so you don’t have to run checks manually or even know the feature is there for it to work.

Collaborations with Integration Partners

We were honored to feature presentations from six of our esteemed integration partners, each demonstrating how their industry-leading software seamlessly integrates with Innova’s solutions:

  1. ROGII: Julian Chenin from ROGII demonstrated live the Innova integration with ROGII’s StarSteer platform. This integration facilitates real-time, bi-directional data synchronization, enhancing geosteering operations and collaborative well planning. This synergy allows for instantaneous transmission of critical information, streamlining workflows and improving decision-making capabilities.

  2. Peloton WellView®: The seamless exchange of BHA and survey data between Well Seeker Pro and WellView® platforms ensures standardized datasets, eliminating duplicate data entry and reducing potential errors. Huge thanks to Jocelyn McMinn and Rob Hermann for presenting and showcasing the benefits of this industry-leading integration.

  3. Survey Correction Services: Through our API, Innova fully integrates with Superior QC and H&P to allow for a seamless flow of data for the end user, both of whom were able to attend the event and present on the day. By automatically pulling corrected surveys directly into Well Seeker, these integrations streamline workflows and minimizes data handling, reducing the potential for errors and ensuring accurate wellbore positioning.

  4. Asset Tracking Systems: Synchronizing asset tracking and daily reporting platforms allows users to pull inventories and bids into Well Seeker from leading third-party ERP systems. This ensures a simple, intuitive process, eliminating manual data entry and enhancing data accuracy. A big thank you to Lee Haddox from Sureshop (405 Technology) for presenting at the event, and to Merge Solutions, another key integration partner we’re proud to work with.

  5. In-Field Referencing (IFR): Xiong Li from Xcalibur demonstrated how we can now seamlessly import precise geomagnetic data directly into Innova Well Seeker Pro from MagCUBE™ by Xcalibur. This highly accurate IFR data helps optimize wellbore placement for even greater precision.

Unveiling the Free Industry Error Model

One of the highlights of the event was the introduction of our Free Industry Error Model, developed in-house by Celia Vergara on behalf of the International Association of Directional Drilling (IADD). This model aims to standardize error modelling processes across the industry, providing a unified framework that enhances accuracy and consistency. The feedback in the room regarding this model was overwhelmingly positive, and we encourage anyone in the industry who is interested to reach out for more information on support@innova-drilling.com.

Embracing Feedback for Continuous Improvement

At Innova, from the very beginning, we’ve always valued the insights and suggestions from our users and remain committed to continuous development. We encouraged all attendees to submit their feedback and ideas through our new feedback page, where others can upvote suggestions they find valuable.

On the day of the event, Dan pledged to address the top 10 suggestions each month, and within just a week, 8 of those suggestions had already been implemented. The message is clear—if you want to see something in the Innova Suite, submit it here and watch it come to life!

At Innova, we’ll keep pushing the boundaries of our technology. Supporting over 500 rigs across North America alone, used in over 50 countries across 6 continents, and with and more than 2,000 global users, the sky’s the limit!
